About CFT
Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) – The Gillespie Approach was founded by Dr. Barry Gillespie. This innovative therapy focuses on the subtle motion of the cerebral spinal fluid, impacting the entire body’s structural cells through the fascial web. The therapy’s foundation draws from cranial osteopathic principles from Dr. William Sutherland, myofascial release work of John Barnes, P.T., and Dr. Gillespie's background as a periodontist - offering hands-on healing for newborns, children, and adults.
Dr. Barry Gillespie’s journey into complementary medicine began after discovering the root of his own health issues in craniosacral fascial restriction. Over decades of research, he unveiled the connection between fascial restriction and numerous childhood diseases, leading to his full dedication to this work in 1997. His pioneering work aims to provide natural care concepts for infants globally, preventing ailments and promoting optimal brain function from the start of life. The therapy's foundation lies in empowering practitioners to listen to infants’ movements, allowing gentle, noninvasive releases of physical and emotional trauma for a thriving and relaxed baby.
Craniosacral Fascial Therapy recognizes the body's innate capacity for self-healing. By releasing restrictions and aligning with the body's natural rhythms, this therapy facilitates self-correction and encourages deep relaxation, nurturing the body's inherent ability to heal itself.
What is fascia
Fascia is a continuous layered web of connective tissue that surrounds all structures of the body and brain. It is made of collagen tubules containing cerebral spinal fluid that provides fluidity and glide for optimal mobility and function of tissue. It provides framework to support and protect the body and brain. It envelopes organs, glands, muscles, nerves and oral structures. It influences the function of cranial nerves and central nervous system.
How CFT works
Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) delicately unwinds and alleviates built-up tension in the fascia, promoting enhanced mobility and improved brain function. By facilitating the movement of cerebral spinal fluid, it aids in nourishing and detoxifying both the body and the brain. Through a technique involving placing one hand on the craniosacral system while exploring the fascia with the other hand, practitioners identify areas of strain and gently assist in their release for heightened well-being.
